Pcca
Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) has been Sigma Delta Tau’s National Philanthropy since it was unanimously agreed upon at the 1982 National Convention. PCAA is a voluntary organization that leads the way in building awareness, providing education, and preventing the abuse and neglect of children. Each chapter of Sigma Delta Tau conducts an annual service project, educational program, or major fundraiser to benefit PCAA. Together, the SDT chapters contribute more than $100,000 each year to their National Philanthropy.
The major philanthropic event of the Alpha Mu chapter of Sigma Delta Tau is ΣΔΤ, Bid, and Be Merry. The event is a wonderful evening that includes dinner, a live band, a live auction and a raffle. This event takes place annually in April, which is also Child Abuse Prevention Month. Last year, the Alpha Mu chapter raised over $12,000 at this event, the most out of any Sigma Delta Tau chapter in the nation. Our chapter also contributes to PCAA through our ΣΔΤ Late bakesales and jewelry events in our suite. Because of our philanthropic efforts, the Alpha Mu chapter at the University of Miami has been nationally recognized as a Diamond Chapter of Sigma Delta Tau for the past two years.
During Child Abuse Prevention Month Sigma Delta Tau chapters also participate in the National Blue Ribbon Campaign in which blue ribbons are distributed across campuses nationwide to help spread the awareness of child abuse to undergraduates. Chapter also participate in the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign, in which the pinwheel is also used as a symbol to represent child abuse prevention and PCAA’s efforts to ensure the healthy development of children.
The Alpha Mu chapter is committed to supporting PCAA as well as our local philanthropy, Children’s Home Society of Florida, which offers family support programs and living services for children in Florida. Our chapter is also dedicated to the national philanthropies of other fraternities and sororities at the University of Miami.
